European Alliance for a European Association Statute (EASEA)
Members of EASEA celebrated the success of their campaign on the adoption of the Written Declaration on the setting up of a European Statute for European Associations in the European Parliament. This statute would give institutional recognition to the engagement and activism of millions of citizens who freely and voluntarily join together in associations across Europe. Alliance members are currently pursuing their joint effort to convince Member States and the Commission to move forward on this dossier.
EUCIS-LLL participated in the coalition of civil society organisations that worked on a common manifesto "For a genuine civil dialogue" in the frame of the EU elections. This collective work was presented during the first "Civil society day", on 14th April 2009. The signatory organisations decided to follow-up this work and organised another "Civil Society Day" in March 2010.

European Alliance on the European Year 2011 of Volunteering
EUCIS-LLL is a member of the EY2011 Alliance whose members have committed to work together on the promotion, lobbying, organisation and implementation of the EYV 2011. The Alliance currently has 39 European networks gathering around 2000 direct member and partner organisations all over Europe and beyond, reaching out to hundreds of thousands of volunteers.
European Alliance for the European Year 2012 on Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generation
The EY2012 coalition currently includes some 25 European organisations who see the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations as an opportunity to address age discrimination and demographic change in a way that is fair and sustainable for all ages. The Year will promote innovative solutions to economic and social challenges facing the ageing European population. It will also help empower older people to stay in good physical and mental health and contribute more actively to the labour market and to their communities.
The Commission proposed to make 2013 the “European Year of Citizens” to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of union citizenship (Maastricht Treaty). The aim is to raise citizens' awareness of their right to reside freely within the EU and of how they can benefit from them. EUCIS-LLL welcomes the initiative that can give a stronger focus to topics that are crucial for our networks such as recognition and validation of diplomas and qualifications. However, EUCIS-LLL vision on what European Citizenship implies goes beyond and includes important topics such as education to (European) citizenship or civil dialogue and participatory democracy that are so crucial to re-connect citizens to the EU project especially one year before the European elections. EUCIS-LLL will join a coalition of NGOs led by the European Civic Forum to push the European institutions to broaden their perspective but also to allocate a proper budget to the EY2013 as the initial proposal of the Commission is only 1 million EUR.
EUCIS-LLL is currently working on two research projects.
European Institute on Lifelong learning
The implementation of lifelong learning strategies at local, regional, national and European levels remains a great challenge today. Systems remain fragmented and cooperation among the different sectors of education and training is still limited. EUCIS-LLL members believe that stronger cooperation between research, practice and policy-making is the key to fostering social innovation in Europe and beyond. Learn more
Research on launching National Stakeholders’ Forums and Platforms
Research shows several limitations in the implementation of lifelong learning strategies at national level. Several civil society networks including EUCIS-LLL expressed concerns for the lack of consultation of stakeholders. This was pinpointed in several EU progress reports as well as by stakeholders. “The Lisbon strategy partly failed because of the implementation gap between EU decisions and national choices. The Europe 2020 strategy aims to strengthen this impact. This is not possible without the implementers: governments and stakeholders (civil society organisations and social partners) alike.” Learn more
