UNESCO is also Rethinking Education
UNESCO has just released a report entitled “Rethinking Education in a Changing World” following the eponymous seminar that took place on 12-14 February. Contrasting with the European Commission’s 2012 Communication on “Rethinking Education”, the document seeks to tackle key changing trends in the world of education such as growing inequalities, digital revolution or de-professionalisation of teachers. The objectives of the UNESCO initiative are indeed to identify global societal transformations, examine their consequences in the creation, reproduction, transmission and appropriation of knowledge, skills and values. The reflection builds on the 1996 Delors report “Learning: the treasure within” and seeks to broaden the debate on education post-2015 (see all UNESCO’s Education for all initiative).
