European Education and Training Monitor 2013 is out
The first edition of the Education and Training Monitor was released last year in the framework of the Commission’s package on “Rethinking Education”, aiming to provide empirical data to improve evidence-based policy-making. On 30 October the 2013 edition was released (see press communiqué) after Director General for Europe 2020 Pierre Mairesse from DG Education and Culture presented the first outcomes at the European Education, Training and Youth Forum (see minutes) and said it was “a collective effort based on Member States’ consultations”. One of the key findings of the 2013 Monitor is that 16 countries decreased their investment in education at some point between 2008 and 2011 and most Member States decreased spending per student for at least of level of education. The Commission notably proposed to introduce efficiency measures to optimise investments made in education by linking them in a stronger way with expected outcomes.
