Improving equity through education
Currently Scotland is heading willingly towards equity in education and looking for new ways to archieve it. The European Forum for Freedom in Education (effe) was invited to hold its recent symposium “Improving Equity through Education” in Edinburgh with the support of Education Scotland. The Report of this symposium which took place last May has just been published. It contains contributions from international experts Andreas Schleicher (OECD), Pasi Sahlberg (Harvard) and Bill Maxwell (Education Scotland). Three key points emerged: creating supportive and inclusive environments for learning, where children feel all well, whatever their differences;ensure teachers are respected and valued by society; allowing for professional autonomy of schools and partnership with their environment.
