2nd Strategic Dialogue Meeting: Dealing with the Refugee Crisis
On 29 October, the Lifelong Learning Platform participated in the 2nd Strategic Dialogue Meeting “The impact of migration and the refugee crisis on social protection systems” between the European Commission and Civil Society organisations. All speakers agreed to the need of a change in discourse, putting the focus on the positive aspects, and the opportunities that the asylum seekers will bring to Europe. Also Marie-Anne Paraskevas from DG EMPL highlighted the ESF funding framework regarding social inclusion of the refugees focusing on employment, education and training, language courses and capacity building. Conny Reuter from SOLIDAR stated that integration and social inclusion through education and training are a long-term investment for Europe, something that does not coincide with austerity based policies.
