The CULT Committee’s September return!
On the 14th and 15th of September the first CULT Committee meeting after the summer break was held. On Monday, MEPs assisted to a presentation of the priorities of the Luxembourg presidency by Romain Schneider, Minister for Sports and participated in a workshop on the “European week of Sport”. On Tuesday, MEPs adopted draft opinions on the general budget of the EU for 2016 as well as on two EP initiatives on the “prevention of radicalization and recruitment of European citizens by terrorist organisations” and on “the role of the EU within the UN – how to better achieve foreign policy goals”. A highlight of the Committee meeting was then the public hearing on “Intercultural dialogue and education for mutual understanding” with the participation of Ms Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, and of 4 experts on the questions of interreligious competence, combating intolerance in education and the role of culture responsive spatial research.
