European Parliament Votes on TTIP

Institutional news -

The European Parliament adopted its recommendations to the European Commission on the Trade Agreement with the US (TTIP) on 8 July 2015, with 436 votes in favour, 241 against and 32 abstentions. By voting yes MEPs effectively gave their stamp of approval for the agreement to go ahead, in spite of repeated protest from their own constituents. EUCIS-LLL, who was deeply concerned by the possible consequences of the negotiations if there was not a clear exemption for education, is happy to announce that the European Parliament carried out on Helga Trüpels’ (Greens, Germany) amendment that EUCIS-LLL and other NGOs, such as ECSWE and effe strongly advocated for: non-profit educational services must be excluded from the scope of the TTIP.
