European Parliament CULT Committee update
During its last meeting, the CULT committee was very active in the field of education and training. It adopted the “Erasmus+ and other tools to foster mobility in VET” draft report and a draft opinion on the “2014 Discharge for the EU general budget“. It also discussed the draft report on the “Follow-up of the Strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training (ET2020)” presented by Rapporteur MEP Krasnodębski (ECR). A highlight of the meeting was the exchange of views with Commissioner Tibor Navracsics in which the priorities for education, training, culture, youth and sports in 2016 were discussed. In the field of education and training the debate mostly tackled the skills agenda that according to the Commissioner should go far beyond employability and VET, the Paris Declaration and concrete initiatives for its implementation and a set of measures for the integration of refugees (including supporting validation systems and online language courses).
