EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström meets civil society representatives
On 20th of October, the third Civil Society Dialogue on the TTIP negotiations was held. Meeting with the representatives of civil society, Cecilia Malmström, the EU Trade Commissioner, highlighted her wish to further improve the dialogue with civil society, transparency and “to promote and defend our shared values” while negotiating the TTIP with the United States. She further assured that “nothing that we do in TTIP will force municipalities or communes to privatize their social public services on health or education”. However, although publicly funded education services are likely to be protected, today’s educational landscape is extremely varied. Hence, the Lifelong Learning Platform is still very much concerned about the consequences of the TTIP on non-formal education and the adult education sector. This is why the Platform is in favour of an exclusion of education from the TTIP, as it had the opportunity to express in a meeting between LLL Platform members and EU Trade Commission Adviser Mrs. Mungengova.
