EU Parliament Committee Updates
The European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairsmet on the 10th of November 2015. After an exchange of view with Marianne Thyssen, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, the MEPs discussed the European social partners’ agreement on parental leave, meeting the antipoverty target in the context of increasing household costs, Erasmus+ and other tools to foster VET mobility, the European network of Employment Services, the Establishment of a European Platform to enhance cooperation in the prevention and deterrence of undeclared work, the Tripartite Social Summit, the Employment Equality Directive and Skills Policies for fighting youth unemployment.
Committee on Culture and Education updates
The European Parliament’s Committee Culture and Education met on the 12th of November 2015. After voting on the Committee’s “Towards a Digital Single Market Act” opinion, the MEPs discussed the “Learning EU at school”, “Erasmus+ and other tools to foster mobility in VET – a lifelong learning approach” and the “Poverty: a gender perspective” draft reports. The debates reflected a strong will to develop a comprehensive European approach for inclusive education systems directed towards citizenship education, employability through mobility and fighting poverty. The Committee also hosted a research team that presented the challenges and strategies of internationalisation of Higher Education.
