Early childhood education and care discussed in the Parliament
On 5 November the CULT Committee acknowledged an internal study on the Quality in early childhood education and care (ECEC) that assesses policy developments and good practices across the EU in this sector. Among key recommendations of this document, EU decision-makers should keep on raising awareness of this policy area, establish clear objectives, benchmarks and indicators in the framework of the Open Method of Coordination and involve stakeholders. Member States shall develop evidence-based policy making, focus on widening participation in ECEC and make a strong financial commitment to deliver the vision. MEPs estimate that the return on investment in ECEC is crucial for our education systems and our knowledge societies in general, and will keep on monitoring progress in the field.
