Budgets Committee approves immediate measures under European Agenda on Migration

Institutional news -

eupOn 12 October the Budgets Committee approved Draft Amending Budget 7 covering immediate measures for managing the refugee crisis. It includes additional funding for the Asylum, Integration and Migration Fund, Internal Security Fund, humanitarian aid and EU Regional Trust Fund for Syria, worth over EUR 330 million in fresh commitments in 2015. Also approved was a linked proposal for mobilising the Flexibility Instrument for EUR 66,1 million to finance the measures included in the Amending Budget. Education is absent from the 14 October Communication. The Lifelong Learning Platform calls EU Institutions to live up to the provisions carried by the previous statement, by which funds may be allocated “to improve language and professional skills, improve access to services, promote access to the labour market, inclusive education foster inter-cultural exchanges and promote awareness campaigns targeting both host communities and migrants.”
