Audrey Frith, LLL Platform Director, “Are we wasting talents? How can validation help?”, 16 November
A round table was held in the European Parliament on “Promoting recognition and validation of skills and competences acquired through non-formal and informal learning” hosted by MEP Momchil Nekov and MEP Damian Draghici, on 16 November. Audrey Frith, Director of the LLL Platform, stressed that European societies are faced with rising unemployment and inequalities while we all know that there is a correlation between education and employment ( especially to quality employment) as well as poverty. However there is not always a correspondence between one’s qualification and one’s knowledge and skills. The whole issue is then how to recognise this learning and use it as a leverage to increase motivation and participation in lifelong learning? The Platform welcomed this important debate as validation can offer another route to qualification that should be included in a comprehensive and long-term strategy aimed to increase access to lifelong learning.
