Lire et faire lire (Read and make read)

Lire et faire lire (“Read and make read”) is a programme supported by the eponymous organisation set up to develop intergenerational solidarity and the pleasure to read among children in schools and other educational structures like day care. 50+ volunteers, trained by experts from a coordinating university, come at school to organise reading sessions with little groups of pupils. Inspired from a good practice in Brest in 1985, Lire et faire lire is now developed in each French department by coordinators from two important national civil society networks. Lire et faire lire is presented in this conference as an inventive way to promote French youth literature as well as enhance intergenerational exchange by encouraging dialogue between children and retired people.
