The European Civil Society Platform on Lifelong Learning (EUCIS-LLL) gathers 36 European networks working in education and training. Together, these organisations cover all sectors of education and training including networks for secondary and higher education, vocational education and training, adult education and popular education; networks for students, school heads, parents, HRD professionals, teachers and trainers.

The Platform was born in 2005 as a response from civil society organisations to the development of European policy cooperation in the field of education and training. Before the establishment of a permanent Platform, in 2001 already, several lifelong learning networks had come together to share their experience and expertise and to react to the Europe-wide consultation on the Lifelong Learning Memorandum. This successful cooperation became permanent with the foundation of an international association (AISBL) under the name of EUCIS-LLL in 2005.

EUCIS-LLL membership has rapidly grown from 6 to 36 member European organisations. It was acknowledged by the European Commission in 2009 as a “unique representation” of lifelong learning of the various education and training actors organised at EU level, and in 2011 as “in a unique position to support European networks in education and training to work collectively at European, national and local levels and to contribute to a structured policy dialogue within the open method of coordination in education and training”.
